 गणेश चतुर्थी जिसे कि विनायक चतुर्थी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, हिन्दु धर्म में एक बहुत ही शुभ पर्व माना जाता है।शास्त्रों के अनुसार गणेश भगवान की कृपा प्राप्ति से जीवन के सभी कष्ट  दूर हो जाते हैं तथा लंबित कार्य भी शीघ्रता से पूरे हो जाते हैं।  असंभव को संभव बनाने बाले गणपति बप्पा की पूजा से सब दुःख दूर होते हैं | हिन्दु धर्म  के अनुसार अमावस्या के बाद आने वाली शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी की तिथि को भगवान गणेश की तिथि तथा चतुर्थी को विनायक चतुर्थी भी कहते हैं। धर्मग्रन्थों में शुक्ल पक्ष की चतुर्थी को विनायकी एवं कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी को संकष्ट चतुर्थी कहते हैं। बहुत जगहों पर इस चतुर्थी को 'वरद विनायक चतुर्थी' भी कहा जाता है।इस दिन श्री गणेश की पूजा दोपहर-मध्याह्न में की जाती है। 

 गणेश जी को विघ्नहर्ता भी कहा जाता है, विघ्नहर्ता का अर्थ है सभी दु:खों को हरने वाले भगवान जी। भगवान जी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए गणेश चतुर्थी का व्रत किया जाता हैं।पहर महीने शुक्ल पक्ष में आने वाली चतुर्थी को विनायकी चतुर्थी व्रत कहते हैं। यह चतुर्थी भगवान श्री गणेश जी को समर्पित है। इस दिन श्री गणेश का पूजन-अर्चन करना लाभदाएक माना गया है। इस दिन भगवान की पूजा करने से घरों में सुख-शांति एवं धन-दौलत की वृद्धि  होती है तथा माँ लक्ष्मी वास करती हैं तथा सब प्रकार के कलेशों एवं दुखों से मुक्ति मिलती है|

यह पर्व हिन्दी कैलेन्डर के भाद्रपद मास (इंग्लिश कैलेंडर-अगस्त मध्य से सितम्बर मध्य) में मनाया जाता है। विशेषकर पश्चिम भारत के महाराष्ट्र में इस दिन को बहुत आस्था के साथ मनाया जाता है। गणेश जी का नाम विघ्नहरता भी है इसलिए माना जाता है कि इन १० दिनों में यदि सच्चे दिल से गणेश भगवान् जी का पूजन आस्था के साथ करें तो श्री गणेश भगवान जी जो कि देवताओँ के भी अग्रणी हैं, आप के जीवन की सभी विघ्न एवं बाधाओं का अन्त कर देते हैं तथा अपने भक्तों पर सुख-सौभाग्य एवं समृद्धि की वर्षा करते हैं। 2019 में श्री गणेश उत्सव 02 सितंबर को से लेकर दस दिन यानि 12 सितंबर अनंत चतुर्दशी के दिन तक रहेगा| अनंत चतुर्दशी को श्री गणेश प्रतिमा के विसर्जन के साथ गणेशोत्सव संपन्न होता है। जय हो गणपति गणेश जी की |
